Salad Servers
designed by Arran Evans and made by Killian Schurmann
This project explored the processes of glass forming.
These salad servers were made by blowing into a heated glass tube, which expanded at the heated end to create a bubble of glass. This bubble was then cut in half with a pair of metal sissors and each half was used to create the spoon ends of the servers. They were then attached to another tube where the liquid would be held and a small spout was formed at the opening to make pouring easier.
Although glass is not a suitable material for the intended use it did allow for the formation of the lettuce leaf ends, which could not have been realised in any other way.
