Nesting table and Chairs

This project explored the problems associated with a lack of seating in small living rooms and tried to solve them by incorporating different pieces of furniture into one product.

Typically in small houses and apartments the dining table can comfortably sit six people, which allows the homeowners to have a number of guests over for a meal. However, problems arise after the meal when the party moves into the living room to relax, as living rooms in small houses typically only seat four people. So where do the other two seats come from?

The Nesting Table and Chairs were designed for small living rooms where a lack of space is a problem. This piece allows the user to hide the extra seats in the side table when not in use and to pull them out easily when needed.

Usually, to avoid the problem of a lack of seating people bring in chairs from their dining table. However these chairs are not ideal as they are too high to have a comfortable conversation with someone sitting on a sofa. The Nesting Table and Chairs overcomes this issue, as the seat height is at a level similar to a sofa, allowing for a relaxed conversation to be had.
